This plaster cast prototype, presented in Tokyo in 1984, reappears now with more adequate materials at the manifestation promoted by Richard Ginori to celebrate 250 years of the Doccia porcelain factory, group member. Some of the greatest designer in the Italian panorama have been involved, they answered the invitation designing a complete tableware service in porcelain (S. Asti, A. Castiglioni, G. Frattini, M. Albini con F. Helg e A. Piva, A. Mangiarotti, E. Mari), or either vases, boxes, jugs and other items (C. Fior, G. De Vecchi, A. Rossi).
Castiglioni proposed a tableware service, coffee set and tea set. The tableware comprised a dinner plate, bowl, soup plate (a deep dish verging on a bowl to accommodate certain primi of the Lombardy cuisine), quarter plate, oval serving dish and a soup tureen. Based on circular shapes and with a balanced size in between the normal household production and the hotel standard one, the pieces are strengthened in thickness. The design of the outer lip provides a distinctive feature to the whole line: rather broad, it is finished internally by a raised thinner edge that forms a barrier for the fingers when serving. The designer focuses over the grips. The handle of the teapot, the coffeepot and the milk jug are all the same, so as those of the cups and the lids, which offered to the fingers an identical ring.
This choice answers the need of the client who wanted an innovative design, able to be compared to the international rivalry, requiring objects thought for a standardized manufacture process.
