“Images of difference” Exhibition, XIX Triennale
general outfitting of the exibition “Gli immaginari della differenza”,
XIX Triennale (MI) (with G.Cavaglià and I. Lupi)
Introducing the Identity and difference theme of the XIX Milan Triennale exhibition, the Images of Difference exhibition occupies about 1300sqm on the first floor of the Palazo dell’Arte and deals with the influence of town planning on the architectural development of cities, with four spaces that simultaneously invite visitors to reflect on the potential uses of specific built spaces. The visitor first traversed the installations and then examined a series of interpretatins of urban settings, each accompanied by information panels suspended from the ceiling. On entering via the main staircase, visitors were confronted with four scenarios – “Delirium” by Peter Eisenman, “Pulp City” by Craig Hodgetts and Hsin Ming Fung, “The window on the world” by Jean Nouvel and “Tapestry, air, network” by Juan Navarro Baldeweg. Castiglioni prepared settings in which to present the ideas of each architect, enclosed in between by mediation elements (designed by the same authors) that delimit the spaces without becoming barriers. The following section, “Identity and Urban Transgressions” (curated by Luigi Mazza), presented a historical and critical interpretation of Barcelona, Amsterdam and Milan, as well as the respective workings of their town plans. Three long photo-strips provided birds-eye views over the cities, mounted one above the other on a singe wall at the central room to provide an introductory panorama for the visitors that are not hold in the detailed reading of the documents, which are displayed in front of this “urban canvas” on continuous inclined stands where illustrations and texts were laid out to for synoptic tables.
